Open Linux Workstation Posted 4.21.2003 @ 22:23:03 EDT by Deuce
I loaded up Open Linux Workstation recently to give it a once over. Loads easily, configures nicely. All the pieces are there. Comes with KDE2. I have not loaded Star Office or any other RPMs yet, but GNOME will be one of them. I will let you know about Star Office. Looks like it will give the MS desktop some real competition from this point. Think of what you'll save on licensing...! Check back soon for the final verdict ")

SCO Office Mail Server Posted 4.21.2003 @ 22:19:19 EDT by Deuce
SCO Office Mail Server 2.0 is much more friendly than Volution Messaging Server 1.1. Most of the install is automatic now and you don't have to do that pesky DNS setup. MUCH friendlier. I recommend this over Exchange hands down. I recently did some contract work for a local integrator installing Exchange 2000 as part of MS SBS. It was easy, the clients still have to be installed, but then there is the cost of licensing thing.

I don't know the MS model for pricing, but consider this:
As of 4.1.03, SCO Office mail server is $379.00 for a 10 user mail server. Additional mailboxes are about $33.00 each, available in 10, 25 and 100 mailbox bump packs. The MS outlook connector is about $20 per unit, also available in 10, 25 and 100 unit bump packs. SCO office mail server must run on a properly configured SCO Linux 4 server, or on Unixware 7.1.3 with the Linux Kernel Personality installed. I tried it both ways. Phenominal.
